നാടൻ സംഗീതത്തിൽ പണ്ടേത്തന്നെ സമ്പന്നമാണ് തമിഴ്നാട്. കർണാടക സംഗീതത്തിന്റേയും മറ്റും പ്രഭാവത്തിൽ പലതും അപ്രത്യക്ഷമായിട്ടുണ്ട്. നാട്ടുപുരപ്പാട്ട് തമിഴ് നാടൻ സംഗീത ശാഖയാണ്. അതിൽ ഗ്രാമതിസൈയും ഗാനവും പെടുന്നു. ഗ്രാമതിസൈ എന്നത് ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും ഗാനം നഗരങ്ങളിലും നിലനിന്ന നാടൻ പാട്ടുകളാണ്.
പ്രശസ്ത തമിഴ് നാടൻ പാട്ടുകാരാണ് Dr. വിജയലക്ഷ്മി നവനീത കൃഷ്ണൻ, പുഷ്പവനം കുപ്പുസ്വാമി, അനിത കൂപ്പുസ്വാമി, ചിന്നപ്പൊണ്ണ്, പറവൈ മുനിയമ്മ തുടങ്ങിയവർ.
തമിഴ് നാടൻപാട്ട് ഗായികയും ഗാനരചയിതാവുമാണ് വിജയലക്ഷ്മി നവനീതകൃഷ്ണൻ. 2018ൽ നാടൻപാട്ടുകളുടെ മേഖലയിലെ സംഭാവനകൾ പരിഗണിച്ച് ഭാരത സർക്കാരിന്റെ നാലാമത്തെ സിവിലിയൻ ബഹുമതിയായ പത്മശ്രീ ലഭിച്ചു. ഭർത്താവ് എം. നവനീതകൃഷ്ണനോടൊപ്പം തമിഴ് നാടൻപാട്ടുകളിലും പ്രാദേശിക നൃത്തരൂപങ്ങളിലും പഠനങ്ങൾ നടത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
